The Man in the Arena

He's mad; he'd been without AC for days. Tens of thousands of his citizens are trapped in New Orleans; untold thousands may be dead.

NevOn: Mayor Ray Nagin had strong words in this September 1st radio interview (13 minutes):

Don't tell me 40,000 people are coming here. They're not here. It's too doggone late. Now get off your asses and do something, and let's fix the biggest goddamn crisis in the history of this country.
It's a stirring interview. Mayor Nagin comes across as a leader greatly frustrated by what he sees as the relief effort's insufficient scale. He is begging for unprecedented powers and the means to fix the problem, though he credits the President Bush for sending in a real ass-kicker to restore the effort's initiative.

thanks for replying. yes, canada is sending 1000 troops and several navy vessels filled with supplies. the federeal government is discussing how much financial aid will be sent. we would simply expect the same from our neighbours if faced with a similar situation, which god forbid could happen on our east coast because we are getting more and more susceptible with warmer and warmer waters creeping further north...the thing that is literally driving us crazy nhow is the price of our gasoline; it is up to $1.40 per litre and still rising; we do not receive oil or gas from the U.S.; in fact, we export oil, so we are pretty frustrated with our oil companies taking this tragedy as a time to gouge their customers; we'll see if it ever goes down...good for the environment, though.
