The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has mobilized its resources for assisting in the disaster relief that followed Katrina. I'm not really up to speed on the role of this Administration, but apparently it's pretty common for them to fly inside hurricanes. I'll wait to hear their assessment of how fast Katrina matured from a depression to Cat1 to full blown national disaster. Everybody knows that conditions ripe for a worst case scenario. But I predict that Katrina highlight that despite high-tech monitoring, our defenses against this type of tragedy can be rendered ineffectual.
