Fixing poor headlines used as links

1.
Chubby Babies in Breast Cancer Link

According to a recent study, chubby babies are more likely to develop various forms of cancer later in life.

Personally, I think "chubby" can be a nice complement for "baby." But this headline is awkward.

2.

The Inside Scoop

This headline fails to inform the reader. Especially if you’re not familiar with the Greensboro News and Record’s regular features, you’ll not understand the destination of this link. I think it should be listed as along with other regular features, like the site’s “Inside Scoop Weblog.” That being said, the placement of this headline is of no help either. I found this one under a regularly updated list of “general news.” Maybe if the headline were interrupted with a colon and a couple of key words, the uninitiated reader would have some clue of what lay beyond the link.

3.
Female wrestling at US camp probed

It shouldn’t take one long to figure out the ways in which this headline could be misinterpreted. Just who or what is being probed, the wrestler or the wrestling?

Note the source of the headline. Is it possible, or even likely, that Al-Jazeera.net intentionally published such an imprecise and potentially tawdry headline? Every other headline linking to stories about the same event from GoogleNews was clear and unmistakable.

This story originated after 30 leaked photos, which depicted some female military police mudwrestling in their underwear, appeared in a New York Post article on Sunday. Predictably, the incident is under investigation. One of the soldiers attached to a NC National Guard unit has been demoted and is under restriction at Camp Bucca in Southern Iraq, where she still performs guard duties.
